The story
When Iris moved her ceramics from Etsy to her own WooCommerce store, she gained her margins and her mailing list — and lost a marketplace’s engineering team. Etsy pages load instantly because hundreds of engineers make them; Iris’s shared-hosting shop was suddenly competing with that on her own.
Craft buyers arrive from Pinterest and Instagram, linger on photography, and bounce fast from slow pages back to the infinite scroll they came from. Her product photos — the whole reason anyone clicks — were also the reason the pages crawled.
The free tier closed most of the gap: page cache, WebP conversion, lazy loading, one afternoon of setup guided by her AI. Her shop will never have Etsy’s engineering team. With the same pages served as static files, it doesn’t need one.
