The story
Marcus runs a six-person accounting practice. His website is quiet for ten months of the year and then, in the run-up to filing season, does more traffic in a fortnight than the previous two quarters combined — all of it people who have just realised they need help and are choosing fast.
The first year, the site slowed to a crawl in exactly that fortnight. Not down, just slow enough that the booking page took eight seconds, which for someone already avoiding the task is permission to close the tab.
Now the whole public site serves as static HTML, the guides and calculators are prewarmed before the season starts, and the client portal is excluded so logged-in clients always see live data. The spike still happens. It just stopped being visible.
