License Management and Activation

5 min read

Activate your xSpeed Cache Pro license to turn on the Pro features and receive automatic updates. This page explains how activation works, what it unlocks, how the status and grace period behave, and how updates are delivered.

What this does

The License panel connects your site to the WPDeveloper store and checks that your license key is valid for this site. When the key is active, xSpeed Cache Pro features are available and the plugin can update itself when a new version is released.

License activation is per site. Each activation uses one slot on your license key. Deactivating on a site frees that slot so you can use it elsewhere.

Why use it

Pro features stay locked until the license is active. Activation also enables update notices and one-click updates for xSpeed Cache Pro from your Plugins screen, so you get fixes and new features without downloading files by hand.

Requirements

  • xSpeed Cache Pro must be installed and active.
  • You need a valid xSpeed Cache Pro license key.
  • Your site must be able to reach the WPDeveloper licensing server.

How to activate your license

  1. Open the xSpeed Cache dashboard in /wp-admin/.
  2. Go to the License panel.
  3. Enter your license key.
  4. Click Activate.

If activation succeeds, the panel shows the license as active, with the key partly masked, and the expiry date.

Note: After you install Pro, xSpeed Cache shows an admin notice asking you to activate your license. The notice links straight to the License panel.

If your license asks for a confirmation code (OTP)

Some licenses require a one-time confirmation code to activate. When that happens, the panel asks for the code instead of activating right away.

  1. Check your email for the confirmation code.
  2. Enter the code in the panel and submit it.
  3. If the code did not arrive or expired, use the resend option to get a new one.

Note: A confirmation code can expire. If you see a message that the code is invalid or expired, request a new one and try again.

How to deactivate your license

  1. Open the License panel.
  2. Click Deactivate.

Deactivating removes the license from this site and frees the activation slot. Do this before moving a license to a different site.

What activation unlocks

Every xSpeed Cache Pro feature checks the license before showing its controls. When the license is active, the Pro panels work normally. When it is not active, Pro modules show a locked panel instead of their real settings.

Status and grace period

The License panel reads the current status from the stored license data. Common states include:

  • Valid — the license is active for this site. Pro features work.
  • Expired — the license term has ended.
  • Not active for this URL — the key is not activated for this site’s address.
  • Activation limit reached — the key has no free activation slots left.
  • Disabled — the key has been turned off on the store side.

When a license expires, xSpeed Cache does not cut off Pro features immediately. There is a 7-day grace period after the expiry date. During grace, Pro features keep working so a lapsed renewal or a slow store check does not break your site right away. After the grace period ends, Pro modules lock until you renew and the license is valid again.

Tip: If your license shows as expired but Pro still works, you are inside the 7-day grace window. Renew before it ends to avoid any interruption.

xSpeed Cache also protects your site’s speed if the licensing server is slow or unreachable. After a failed check, it waits about an hour before trying again instead of contacting the server on every page load.

Automatic updates

Once your license is active, xSpeed Cache Pro checks the WPDeveloper store for new versions. When an update is available:

  • The update appears on your Plugins screen and in the WordPress updates area, the same as any other plugin.
  • You can update with one click, or let WordPress auto-update xSpeed Cache Pro if you have auto-updates turned on for it.
  • You can view the changelog for the new version before updating.

Update checks are cached for a few hours, so xSpeed Cache does not contact the store on every request.

Note: If the license is not active, xSpeed Cache Pro cannot deliver updates through the store. Activate your license to get update notices.

Best practices

  • Keep the license active on your live site so you always get security and bug fixes.
  • Deactivate before migrating a license to a new domain, so you do not run out of activation slots.
  • Renew before the expiry date to stay clear of the grace period entirely.

Troubleshooting

  • “Your license is not active for this URL.” The key is not activated for this exact site address. Activate it here, or deactivate it on the old site first.
  • “Your license key has reached its activation limit.” All activation slots are in use. Deactivate the key on a site you no longer need, or use a license with more slots.
  • “Your license key expired.” Renew the license, then activate again. If it recently expired, you may still be inside the 7-day grace period.
  • “Your license key has been disabled.” The key was turned off on the store side. Contact WPDeveloper support.
  • The confirmation code is invalid or expired. Request a new code with the resend option and enter it promptly.
  • Activation fails with a general error. Your site may not be able to reach the licensing server, or the server may be busy. Wait and try again; xSpeed Cache backs off for about an hour after a failed check.
  • No update showing for a new release. Confirm the license is active. Update data is cached for a few hours, so a new version may take a short while to appear.

FAQ

Does one license work on more than one site? Each activation uses one slot on your key. How many sites you can activate depends on your license. Deactivating a site frees its slot.

What happens the moment my license expires? Nothing breaks right away. Pro features keep working for 7 days after expiry, then lock until the license is valid again.

Is my full license key stored in plain view? The panel shows the key partly masked when it displays your current status.

Do I lose my settings if the license lapses? Your saved settings stay in place. Pro panels lock after the grace period, but activating a valid license again restores access.
