# How to activate your licence

> Activate xSpeed Cache Pro to unlock the Pro modules and receive updates — and know how to deactivate cleanly when you move a licence to another site.

---

Your licence does two jobs: it unlocks the Pro modules and it keeps the plugin receiving updates. This panel shows its state, when it expires, and lets you release it when you need the licence somewhere else.

> **Where to find it**
>
> 1. In your WordPress admin, click **xSpeed Cache** in the left menu.
> 2. In the xSpeed Cache sidebar, open the **Settings** group.
> 3. Click the **License** card.
>
> *Shortcut: open `wp-admin/admin.php?page=xspeed#/settings/license` directly.*
>
> ⭐ This panel is part of **xSpeed Pro**.

1. **Licence status** — with **Deactivate**.
2. **Key and expiry** — the key is shown masked.

## Settings at a glance

| Element | What it shows |
| --- | --- |
| **Status** | Active or inactive, with what the licence entitles you to. |
| **Key** | Your licence key, masked to first four and last four characters. |
| **Expires** | The date and time entitlement ends. |
| **Deactivate** | Releases the licence from this site. |

---

## How it works

An active licence reads **ACTIVE** and states what it provides: *"Receiving updates + Pro features from store.wpdeveloper.com."* Those are two separate benefits — the Pro modules work, and the plugin can fetch updates.

**Expires** is the important date. When a licence lapses you don't lose your site or your settings, but you stop receiving updates, and Pro modules stop being entitled.

> 🔒 **The key is deliberately masked**, showing only its first four and last four characters. That's enough to confirm *which* licence is active if you hold several, without exposing the key itself. Even so, those are real characters from your key — **cover it before sharing a screenshot**.

---

## Deactivating

**Deactivate** releases the licence from this site. You'd use it when:

- **Moving a licence to a different site** — most licences are seat-limited, so the old site must release it before the new one can claim it.
- **Decommissioning a site** — free the seat rather than leaving it consumed by a site nobody uses.
- **Before migrating or cloning** — a cloned site carrying an active licence can confuse seat counting.

> ⚠️ **Deactivating disables the Pro modules immediately.** Your configuration is preserved — nothing is deleted, and reactivating restores everything — but Pro features stop working and updates stop arriving until a licence is active again. Don't do it on a live site unless you intend that.

## What Pro adds

1. **What Pro adds** and **Need help?** — with links to the feature list and to support.

The panel summarises it: image conversion, CDN, Cloudflare APO, PageSpeed insights, and 100+ more features. In this documentation, anything marked ⭐ requires an active licence — see [Advanced Cache](https://xspeedcache.com/docs/advanced-cache/), [Critical CSS](https://xspeedcache.com/docs/critical-css/), [Unused CSS](https://xspeedcache.com/docs/unused-css/), [Image Optimization](https://xspeedcache.com/docs/image-optimization/) and the [AI & agents](https://xspeedcache.com/docs/ai-provider/) group.
